Mary, did you know, that your baby boy would one day walk on water?

Mary, did you know, that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?

Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?

This Child that you delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?

Mary, did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?

Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod, and when you’ve kissed your little baby, you’ve kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know?  The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again.  The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?

Mary, did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

Did you know that your baby boy is Heaven’s Perfect Lamb, and the sleeping Child you’re holding is the Great I Am?

This is a beautiful song.  If you’ve never heard it, one of my favorite versions of it is sung by Kenny Rogers on his CD  “the gift.”

I’m pretty sure that a lot of the questions that are asked in this song, Mary knew the answers to.  She knew that Jesus was the Messiah, she knew that He would die for us and perform many miracles…..the angels told her many thing about her Son before He arrived….I think that what this song is really saying “Mary, as you hold your new born son, do you really realize the magnitude of who He is and what He will do for the world?”

In Luke 2, it says “Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.”  I can’t help but wonder if she was pondering and imagining all of the wonderful things her Son would do one day, yet treasuring her baby boy all at the same time.  I wonder how long it took it to really sink in after Jesus was born that she was the mother of the Messiah.  That she was raising the Son of God.

I cannot even imagine how it must have been for Mary, seeing first hand her own Son turning the water into wine, feeding 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes, healing sick people, and raising people from the dead.

I also can’t imagine how it must have been for Mary to watch her Son die on the cross.  As she watched, was she remembering the night He was born?  Was she remembering when He was only 12 and she thought she lost Him in the crowd, only to find Him in the Temple with the Priests.  Was she thinking about His first miracle at the wedding in Cana?

Even before Jesus was born, Mary knew that one day He would have to die for our sin, but still I don’t think it was an easy thing for Mary to watch.

Mary, did you know?
